The Batoka Gorge channels the Zambezi River through deep, zigzagging canyons immediately below Victoria Falls. It hosts intense commercial white-water rafting and the historic bridge connecting Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Victoria Falls drops 108 meters (354 feet) into this steep gorge, completely changing the river's character. The calm upper waters become turbulent. They carve out 25 named rapids with commercial grades from III to V.
This lower section of the Zambezi is heavily seasonal. To run the full sequence of rapids, you must visit during the low-water season from August to December.

A massive swirling whirlpool just below Victoria Falls marks where low-water rafting trips begin. The hike down to this launch point is steep and physically demanding. Wear proper shoes and allow enough time to navigate the rocky path safely.

This historic railway bridge spans the gorge between Zambia and Zimbabwe. You need your passport to clear the border posts and obtain a free bridge pass. From the center, you can watch bungee jumpers, gorge swings, or look down at the river.

These intense Grade V rapids feature fearsome names like 'Oblivion' and 'The Mother'. The low-water season (August to December) is the only time you can run all 25 rapids. High-water trips (January to July) skip the first 10 rapids due to intense and dangerous water volume.
